Newtown Volunteer of the Year Award

May 18, 2015

Thursday 23rd April 2015 saw members of the community come together at the Elephant and Castle, to celebrate the work done by all the volunteers in the town. This is Rina Clarke’s final event before she hangs up her chain and steps down from her two year Mayorship.

Awards for a group, individual over 25, special young person’s award and outstanding community award were presented by Joy Hamer, AM Russell George, Michiel Blees from P.A.V.O, MP Glyn Davies, Cllr Phil Watkins and Rina Clarke.

Award winner Nicky Morris "Thank you for a lovely evening celebrating volunteers. It was a real honour to have won and I am very grateful for the lovely award. Newtown has such amazing people who give their time for the benefit of their local community. It makes me feel very proud to be a small part of it."

Mayor Rina Clarke said “Newtown is filled with amazing people who are making a difference in the town, and this event aimed to bring together these people and celebrate all the great work they do. It was a pleasure to meet some of the volunteers and award them for their outstanding contributions.”

Rina also presented her cheques to both Dial a Ride and Wales Air Ambulance, for the charity collections she has done over the time she has been Mayor.

The awards were sponsored by Motif, Red Flame, Ontrac and Hughes Architects and we thank them for their contribution and attendance at the event.
